Choosing the right chainsaw sharpener depends on several factors. This is not a one-size-fits-all situation. These…
Fertilizer for zucchini isn’t something you should overthink.
Gardening can be an art form and many people are good at it but I’ve seen many who gave up on growing their own produce because they were convinced or told there was a science to it.
And again, coming up with the right fertilizer for zucchini plants isn’t rocket science.
My best choice fertilizer for zucchinis? Good old fashioned home grown composted organic manure.
As a child growing up on a farm with parents who were expert gardeners, I picked up a trick or two.
Our farm was actually a vineyard but a couple of acres of it was dedicated to raising farm animals and growing fruit and vegetables.
My main job which put poker money in my pocket every week was to take care of the animals. Specifically, the birds which included chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, pigeons and what we called meat birds.
In a sentence…that’s a lot of crap. And again, it was my job to make sure the yards were kept clean and the manure was collected. Not one of the most enjoyable jobs in the world but as a kid with things to buy,I needed the money.
So a good portion of the organic manure was spread on the garden when it was required including the zucchini patch.
And wow, did it thrive. We were producing zucchinis that looked more like elongated pumpkins. They were big and they were tasty. Not that a raw zucchini is tasty but when you cook it with a variety of other stuff, it’s delicious.
So my best choice fertilizer for zucchini? Undoubtedly, organic manure.
Today, technology is such where you can forego the “crap”, and buy ready made fertilizer online and at your local garden center.
7 Fertilizer For Zucchini Plant Options
So we’ve established my choice for the best fertilizer for zucchini plants.
That’s organic manure.
But what if you don’t live on a farm and haven’t got hundreds of birds of different varieties producing organic manure for you?
Well, this os when you need to take advantage of the tech.
We’ve come a long way in the art of creating the perfect fertilizer for your plants and I say why not take advantage of it.
So I’ve done a little thinking and come up with the following list. On top of course, of home grown organic manure.
Home Grown Organic Manure
For the reasons explained above.
Pretty much the same but unlike the manure we produced, this is generally produced by one species of bird or animal. As I mentioned, our composted manure was produced by different varieties of birds. Composting home grown organic fertilizer is crucial whether it be from chickens, horses or cows.
Azomite Powder Fertilizer For Zucchini Plants
One you probably have heard of but Azomite Powder it’s gained plenty of traction as a fertilizer that is rich in nutrients and minerals. It is a good choice as a fertilizer for zucchini plants. So where is it available? As always, check your local garden center and if they haven’t got it, then head to online stores such as Amazon. It’s not cheap but it is affordable. If you haven’t used it before, buy it in smaller units such as pound bags and get a feel for what it does. It’s a good choice for fertilizer.
Bone Meal Nutrients
For a plant’s phosphorus needs, bone meal is perfect. While some will suggest it’s great for flowering plants, if bone meal is all you can get for your zucchinis, don’t fret, it will help “perk them up”. Like Azomite powder, bone meal is available at most outlets. I always encourage people to shop locally but I will admit, this stuff is always well priced at online stores like Amazon. I’ll leave it up to you.
Alfalfa Meal Plant Food Supplement
Another great choice for zucchini plant fertilizer is Alfalfa Meal Plant Food. What I like about Alfalfa meal is it doesn’t contain hidden weeds and has a host of ingredients that make it a powerful addition to your fertilizing efforts. Think phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen for starters which will do your soil wonders. While some may consider this a little on the expensive side when it comes to fertilizers, I think Alfalfa meal is more affordable than most think. Same as above, shop locally but the deals are online. Go to Amazon firstly and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Like Alfalfa and bone meal, fish emulsion is a great choice for plants fertilizer because of what it contains. It’s a little similar to Alfalfa with magnesium and calcium thrown in and this has been superb on my zucchini patch. This is not a numbered order list and I would have placed it right after my first choice. This is a really affordable fertilizer in my opinion and your local Walmart will carry it. If not, head to Amazon and you’ll get a variety of choices. I like the Down To Earth brand.
Rabbit Manure Pellets
What? Rabbit pellets? As a child, I also had rabbits and I’ll let you in on a little secret; rabbit dung is powerful fertilizer for plant life. It’s like it is supercharged. That home grown composted organic manure was great, but here’s the truth…rabbit “crap” left that stuff “in the dust” when it came to richness. Only problem was, getting enough of it. If you can get rabbit manure fertilizer for your zucchinis, grab it. With its supply of phosphorus and nitrogen important, it’s a go-to fertilizer for your zucchini plants.
